Inspecting Elements
The Inspect Element tool helps users explore BIM data associated with any given element in their model, and easily document actionable items associated with them. This metadata provides much of the information necessary to quickly get back into your model for revisions.
When inspecting an element, it will temporarily turn opaque until it is deselected, turned red by adding to a report, or until another element is inspected.
With the Inspect Element tool selected, users are able to point at any individual element in their model and pull the trigger to inspect that element. The information displayed differs a bit per file type:
- Revit files- all type and instance properties will be displayed, this includes data like- element and family name, cost, element ID, phasing, etc.
- Navisworks files- all element-level metadata and custom fields will be displayed.
- Other file formats - information available for SketchUp, Rhino, FBX, OBJ, and IFC files will include element name, material, and any accessible layer information.
Visibility Settings
Inspect element feature displays all relevant visibility setting information for elements.
Users can turn off directly within the inspect element menu. This is extremely useful if you don't know what layer an element is on, and in many cases, it will be faster and more convenient than purely using visibility settings for a locating particular layer/category/ etc.
Hiding Elements
Users can hide individual elements while in VR via the Inspect Element menu.
While an element is selected, click "Hide" to make that object disappear. "Unhide" makes the object most recently hidden reappear, and "Unhide All" returns visibility to all hidden objects.
