The Annotations tool palette includes various options for adding markups, callouts, and measurements to your model, plus the ability to undo all the annotations or delete specific portions.
To operate the Annotations menu, first bring up the menu toolbar while in Prospect. Select the crossed pencil and ruler icon to bring up the tool palette.
Brush Tool
Clicking on the brush tool will reveal a few options. First you’ll have the option of choosing between a Projected or Handheld brush. Using the brush in Handheld mode will allow users to draw in three-dimensional space around them. Switching to Projected mode allows users to draw on surfaces at a distance. You may also adjust the thickness and color of the brush within the menu.

Brush Tool With Different Hardware Pairings
- On the HTC Vive the stroke will be created by pointing then holding the back trigger on the navigation wand. If you can not see where the stroke is appearing, lift your hands so your controllers are visible in-VR.
- With the Oculus Controllers the strokes are created by moving the controller and holding down the trigger in the back.
- With Prospect for Desktop (without a headset) - the cursor allows for drawing in "projected" mode. With any annotation tool selected, click or click/hold to the left mouse button annotate the model. The right mouse button remains available to click and hold to adjust your view.
Callout Tool
Another way users can mark up their model is by using the callouts. The callout feature projects a circular shape onto a surface and is a quick, easy way to call attention to some aspect of a design. You may also adjust the color, size, and thickness of these callouts.
Measuring Tool
The measuring tool allows you to easily measure distances in VR to confirm scale and identify errors or code issues.
You can choose between perpendicular mode and freeform mode measurements. With perpendicular mode on, the measuring tool will automatically measure a perpendicular line from the surface you point the tool at to the surface opposite it. With freeform mode, you can measure a direct line by pointing at a starting point, selecting that point, and then selecting an end point. Users can place numerous measurements and they will persist between launches like other annotations (unless erased).

Eraser & Undo
When the Eraser tool is activated, use your controller to point and highlight the portion of the brush stroke or measurement you’d like to have erased. Alternatively, you can use the Undo tool to delete recent markups.
Saving Markups and Markup Persistence
Select the camera tool after you've finished redlining and marking up your model to capture both 360 panoramas and 2D images - it's a great way to document these markups as actionable items outside of VR.
Your markups and other changes made to the model in-VR (e.g sun settings, layers) will also persist within your project until you clear them, which can be done by either undoing /erasing the annotations in-VR, or clicking the options button on your project in your library, then selecting "Reset Markups". (note that reset markups option will currently be present in unsyced files)
