Here's an example file of a Grasshopper definition using two versions of the same mesh to get different behaviors of the Inspect Element tool in Grasshopper.
On the left, you can see a mesh composed of 720 faces. When using the Inspect Element tool, the entire mesh will be selected and flagged and only one layer will be assigned to the object, as shown below.
On the right, you can see 720 meshes, the result of exploding the aforementioned mesh. In this case, different materials can be assigned to each and they can be selected, flagged and hidden with the Inspect Element tool, as illustrated below.
Our recommendation is to switch to the camera tool after you've finished flagging elements and marking up the model. You can quickly grab some images and use our template to organize thoughts and revisions.
